Nokia on Friday announced a new “Connected Driving” experience under its automotive Here brand, that aims at connecting in-car activity with the cloud, as well as a Here Auto companion app for smartphones.
Nokia’s new technology includes Here Auto Cloud, a platform that will provide drivers with access to real-time traffic updates, road closures, and recommendations based on their location.
That offering includes in-car navigation and works in 95 countries. Nokia said it plans to launch a software development kit that would allow developers to create applications that could be integrated with Nokia’s services.
Key features of Here Auto Cloud include saving your favorite places, routes and commutes in the cloud and syncing them with other Here products, map updates, real-time traffic info, community-generated info such as POI (points of interest) ratings, street level imagery and weather as well as fuel price info.
The Here Auto Companion, a customizable mobile and web app that lets you view your routes from your mobile and desktop computer. You can also use it to find your car as well as check its stats such as fuel level or tire pressure.
Further detailed demonstration by the company will be at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt next month. Also the pricing or availability on its cloud integration will be announced ‘Here’.
