The A8 chip in Apple’s next flagship smartphone will be made by Samsung, as reported by Korean daily Hankyung, but majority of the manufacturing will be handled by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.
TSMC will have the major responsibility
of manufacturing 60 to 70 percent of the A8 processors, while the rest
would be manufactured by Samsung itself. Samsung will be manufacturing 30 to 40 percent of the processors for Apple’s next generation devices.
Earlier, reports showed that Samsung manufactured the A7 chips for Apple, but this time Apple has signed a deal with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company in the month of June to start manufacturing chips for upcoming Apple devices.
